How Does it Work?
My Process
The most important thing here at Once Upon a Time Reading Tutoring is your child! Their strengths, their weaknesses, and more specifically, where they fall on the reading continuum. I want to meet them where they are currently functioning and move them, skill by skill, along the road to reading. To do this effectively, I use the following process:
Tutoring Process
Step 1. Conduct an initial meeting with you (parents) to discuss your concerns. This can be done over the phone.
Step 2. Complete a diagnostic where your child will be assessed in the following areas:
- Phonemic Awareness
- Phonics
- High Frequency Words
- Fluency
- Comprehension
- Letter Formation/Handwriting
Step 3. Conduct a 10-minute follow up meeting to discuss your child’s strengths, weaknesses, and next steps.
***Steps 1-3 will be done in one session lasting 45-90 minutes.
Step 4. Create a plan for individualized instruction.
Step 5. Begin tutoring!
- Twice a week sessions are recommended.
- Decodable passages for independent reading, leveled books for parent/child read a louds, and other supplemental materials will be provided.
Step 7. Conduct appropriate progress monitoring to measure growth.
I put emphasis on understanding your child’s current level and taking it from there!
I look forward to hearing from you! Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have!
